WhatsApp is a free downloadable messaging app which can be used on the internet to send pictures,video,audio  and video all over the world. The service is an alternative of the sms service, but is significantly cheaper because it uses an internet connection. By the early 2014 WhatsApp witnessed humongous growth and a fusible but millions of people across the globe using its messaging service. 

What’sApp is the name which is pun on the phrase What’s Up. What’sApp was founded by computer programmer Jan Koum and Brian Acton in January 2009. The application was launched with a messaging component with 250,000 active users. It is an American freeware, messaging platform and voice over IP service was originally free but has been switched to paid service. It provides simple, secure, available messaging as well as voice call and video calls available on phone all over the world. Cellular mobile number required to register on this service. The application allows users to send a messages to who have installed this app which is available for Android, iPhones and also for desktops.

WhatsApp was purchased by Facebook for approximately US$19.3 billion in February 2014. In a deal which was touted to be one of the biggest acquisition in tech history. Facebook also offered a board member position to Jan koum. It continues to work as a separate laser program aimed at building fast and reliable messaging service anywhere in the world.

In 2015 it was the world’s most famous messaging application. WhatsApp has more than 1.2 billion users worldwide in February 2017. In 2017 Acton left Facebook and he bought WhatsApp for $16 billion after 3 years and also Co-founder Jan Koum left the company in 2018. Now WhatsApp is the biggest property of Facebook, after its messenger service and Instagram.
